3D Text

notes from YouTube video by Jesus Ramirez on Adobe Live Daily Creative Challenge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=nHaKhyOBaF4

these are basics, I will update as I learn more techniques

you have a background
then add text layer
with text layer selected click 3D and New 3D Extrusion from selected layer

if you are on move tool, you will see the 3D overlays, to hide them click on any other tool
(or use keyboard shortcut, he uses V & M)

bottom left corner of your screen has 3 tools

orbit - which allows you to rotate the camera around the object
pan - move the 3D object
dolly - zoom in and out
you have to hold down to use these tools, you can't just click on them

perspective - the grey line on top of 3D grid is the horizon line

to determine the horizon line on you image, look where all the converging lines meet

Jesus has video on his PTC channel to help with perspective
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoHfZFl65fo

on the 3D object there are 3 handles with 3 options
the handles control the X (red)  Y (green) & Z (blue) axis
the 3 options are
triangle icon - moves object on the axis
arc icon - rotates object on the axis
cube icon - scales object on the axis

the center cube will let you scale the object uniformly
to resize the axis handles - hold shift and click the object to resize handles

if your adjustments raise the object off the ground and floating you can bring it back to
ground by choosing coordinates in the properties panel and click move to ground

to change to shape of object
in layers (3D) panel have your 3d object selected
in properties panel choose mesh option
under shape presets choose one

in 3D panel, if you click down arrow to open 3D object group, you can choose any of
the parts of the object
such as if you want to change color of extrusion you can by changing color of diffuse in
properties panel (can change multiple materials at one time by holding shift and selecting)

to add reflection to object
with a material selected like above, drag reflection slider up

this is a default reflection of light
to make it a reflection of background - select environment in 3D panel
and in properties panel, click the icon next to IBL image and choose edit texture

then click and drag you background image onto that tab, under image choose reveal all
close and save
now with 3D layer selected in layers panel and environment selected in 3D panel
with move tool you can drag on sphere and choose what part of background image is
reflected in object

to control lighting on object
in 3D panel click infinite light and rotate sphere
can adjust intensity and shadows in properties panel

with 3D object selected in 3D panel
go under 3D menu up top and choose split extrusion to adjust or move your letters independently
