starting image

convert to smart object
then control + click and choose new smart object via copy
(this copies the smart object but allows you to edit separately)
named the top layer mirror
and bottom layer image

flip the mirror layer horizontally
(command+T to free transform then control+click and choose flip horizontal)


then rotate 90 degrees clockwise
(command+T to free transform then control+click and choose rotate 90 clockwise)
and drag the edges of image to the left edge


hide image layer
on mirror image, use polygonal lasso tool to make a horizontal selection of image



add layer mask and invert it (cmd+I)
unhide image layer
hold shift while using the move tool to move mirror image to the right
(holding shift constrains position vertically and proportion)
unlink the mask on mirror layer by clicking the chain between the image and mask


option+click on mask to see it
with mask selected make selection and fill with black to hide all pixels on lift side of mask


use move tool to move mirror layer into position


double click mirror layer to edit it
use clone stamp tool to erase the kayak guy in it
it doesn't have to be a perfect job

close and save to go back to original file


to bring back paddle
on image layer use quick select (or what you need) to select paddle
(can hide mirror layer if it helps)
command+J to duplicate paddle onto own layer and drag that layer to the top of layer panel


she used bird mix brush to add some birds and added some clouds with a cloud brush to look more like a waterfall (used brushes on new layers)
then she used camera raw filter to adjust for final image


my version of the time my daughter saved a girl from sliding off the end of the world
